Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who is able to join the hunt?

A: Anyone is free to join regardless of gender, age, residing country, etc.

Q: What if I don't have a team but would like to be in one?

A: We've recently updated our registration so that you have an option to be pooled with participants that are looking for team members. While it is not a guarantee that you will be placed with other people, single-member teams have a better chance of being pooled with others. Keep an eye out for an email assigning you your new team!

Q: Are we able to practice for the puzzle hunt?

A: Definitely! There are many past puzzle hunts out with solutions for practice, as well as guides out there to puzzle solving. Online resources include but are not limited to the Harvard CS50X Puzzle Hunt, MIT Mystery Hunt, Mission Street Puzzles, Galactic Puzzle Hunt, and Integirls (who we were mainly inspired by).

Q: How does teamwork work?

A: This one is a bit tricky, as there are different ways to go about it. When we participated in puzzle hunts, we found it best to attack the puzzles independently at first. This method minimizes the amount of overlapping ideas between teammates. We would periodically have group calls where we could bounce our ideas off of each other/gain some insight from others and brainstorm together. This helped when we were stuck and facilitated a constant flow of fresh ideas.

Q: Is there a prize?

A: There will indeed be a small cash prize split among top teams, along with the winning teams having their names put up onto our website! But we know you're not here for the prize, you're here for the clout ;)

Q: Is there a meta puzzle?

A: This is our first time writing a puzzle hunt so unfortunately, there is no meta this time around. That is not to say we won’t have one in the future!
